Kody Lostroh - 2009 PBR World Champion

Kody Lostroh was crowned the 2009 PBR World Champion.  Kody is twenty-four years old and calls Longmont, CO home.  Kody had to battle not only his injuries throughout the season, but he had to battle all those who doubted his ability to finish the 2009 PBR season never mind going to the PBR World Finals.

Well Kody defied the odds, and come on strong to win the PBR World Championship, including riding seven of eight bulls during the World Finals.  During the 2009 PBR season, Kody rode against J.B. Mauney and Guilherme Marchi to remain on top of the standings.  Kody will have surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn tendon in his left elbow, an injury he acquired back in April.

Kody made this comment in respect to his winning the PBR World Championship, “It’s really a dream come true for me.”  “I didn’t have a clue what the points were, and to be honest with you, I didn’t care.  I was still there to do my job. I was planning on riding that bull no matter if I had it won or I didn’t have it won.”

Kody’s bull in the final round was Voodoo Child.  Voodoo Child has only been ridden once in seventy attempts, and that honor goes to two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride.  Kody rode Voodoo Child for an exciting 7.47 seconds.  Unfortunately for Kody being bucked off meant that he would not become the second man in PBR history to win the World Championship and the World Finals event title in the same year.

And as for the bulls Kody had during the PBR World Finals this year… “I came out here with the mindset to ride every bull I got on, and it worked out, I drew right and I couldn’t have asked for any better bulls.  That’s what every guy dreams of is winning the World Finals and winning the world.  I’ll try next year. I don’t think I’m going to retire this year.”

And as for the money that Kody won, this was his remarks “I don’t have a clue.  I still don’t think it’s sunk in yet. A million bucks is a lot of money. I may get a place that’s a little bigger for me and my wife. That’s the only thing I can think of.”

Congratulations to Kody Lostroh, the 2009 PBR World Champion.

. PBR Round 5 - Kody Lostroh and Troubadour

Not sure what to expected from the bulls in Round 5… Announcer Brandon Bates said it best… “Tonight is about heart. Tonight is about guts. It’s about hanging it all out there.”

In the first flight, three of seven bulls are contenders for the title of PBR World Champion Bull.  By the time the night was over, only thirteen riders covered their bulls.  The rank pen of bulls had come to the PBR tonight, and you knew the action was going to be fast, dangerous, and very unpredictable.

Kody Lostroh from Longmont, CO rode Troubadour for 92.15 points to claim victory in round five.  This is Kody’s second round win at the PBR World Finals this year, and Kody’s third match up with Troubadour.  Kody had this to say about Troubadour; “The previous three times, he’d (Troubadour) spun to the right,” Lostroh said. “So tonight when he spun left, he still bucked just as hard, but it was just a little different feel. That bull kind of backs up while he’s spinning, backs up under himself, and wants to pull you over his head. It all worked out good though.”

This was another great night at the PBR World Finals; a lot of action, danger, and awesome rides.  Join me as I bring you rides and unforgettable moments from Round 5 at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas.
