PBR - The Last Cowboy Standing

PBR's The Last Cowboy Standing - April 16, 2011 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas

The PBR has always been about being the best of the best, and tonight will be no exception. The PBR will be making history twice tonight with the ‘FIRST EVENT of its kind… TOUGHEST night of the year,’ and second by offering that same event live on pay-per-view live.

The pay-per-view for the PBR is a first, and was offered when VERSUS, the PBR’s broadcast partner was covering the NHL Playoffs. The PBR wanted to include their fans in this unique opportunity… ‘We didn’t want our fans to lose out on one of the most unique and exciting events the PBR has ever had.’  The action will be live and will cover the events you would normally only see at the event… the opening ceremonies, Flint, and of course all the rides, wrecks, the bulls, and the bull riders.

The format for this event is nothing like any PBR Event, and the format is very simple… ‘Ride 8 seconds, Move on. Come up short. GO HOME.’ If a rider rides his bull, he will move onto the next round. But, if he is bucked off he doesn’t get a second chance. Starting with the second round, bulls will be randomly matched with riders based on a draw.

Forty bull riders will have will a chance to ride a bull in Round one, and will move on it Round 2 with an eight second ride, where they will ride a second bull. This will continue for a maximum of five rounds and a minimum of three rounds… or until there is only one rider left.

The cowboy that wins first in each round will receive $ 4000, and second in each round will receive $ 3000. The Last Cowboy Standing will take home $ 200,000, which is the second highest single-day payout in the history of the PBR. A total of $ 300,000, the most ever for a one-day event, will pay out when the dust settles on Saturday night.

To be The Last Cowboy Standing, riders will need to ride a minimum of three bulls and a maximum of five bulls. And don’t look for those rank bulls in the last round, bulls Smackdown, Perfect Poison, Spitfire, Hank and Yellow Jacket Jr will buck in Round 2. The riders will be fresh, but it doesn’t mean they are in for an easy ride; other bulls to watch in Round 2 will be Paycheck, The Situation, and Heebee Geebee.

In the rare event that all the riders are bucked off in rounds one through four, riders will redraw. In the fifth round if more than one rider makes his eight second ride, the winner will be determined by the total aggregate score from his rides. If a flag is thrown a re-ride will be required before the rider can advance to the next round.

Cody Lambert had this to say ‘This is old-school bull riding; the guy that makes the whistle the most is going to win $200,000.’  A bull rider’s first priority is to stay on his bull, and ride for eight seconds. In bull riding unlike other sporting events, bull riders don’t get paid if they don’t ride.

A PBR Insider had this to say ‘There will be a lot of sad people on Sunday morning, when they realize what they missed.’ Whether you are in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay, your small hometown bar, or relaxing in the comfort of your home or man cave… this is one PBR event that you don’t want to miss. And remember two things ‘Ride 8 seconds, Move on. Come up short. GO HOME,’ and ‘PBR The Toughest Sport on Dirt.
